UR CHURCH GOVERNANCE

We first recognize Jesus as the head of UPPERROOM church. This concept of Theocratic rule acknowledges that God is the creator and establisher of all governing institutions and authorities. Therefore, all UPPERROOM leaders invite and rely on the Lord's leadership and counsel in every aspect of operations. All Elders and Staff are consistently focused on hearing, seeing, believing, and obeying the direction of the Lord.

The New Testament places the spiritual governance of a local church body in the hands of Elders. The role of the Elders is different from the implementers of ministry, which falls to the Founding Leaders, Staff, and volunteers. The UPPERROOM church is spiritually governed by Elders, led by the Founders Leaders, run by the Staff and volunteers, and owned by the church congregation. UPPERROOM operates with a plurality of leaders with a singular/primary head: Founding Leaders Michael and Lorisa Miller. By singular headship, we do not mean singular rule. Rather, a unified team of leaders will surround the Founding Leaders to support and assist them. This plurality of leaders around the singular headship brings accountability, shared ownership, and vision.

Each UPPERROOM campus recognizes and appoints its own Elders to pastor their congregants.  In addition, certain Elders and other church leaders operate as the Church Board with decision-making powers over the executive leadership team, finances, and legal matters. The UPPERROOM Dallas Church Board is the spiritual covering and governing authority over each DFW Regional church campus and collaborates with the UPPERROOM Global Board on broader UPPERROOM initiatives.
